Upon completing his fellowship, Professor Barnea returned to Tel Aviv Medical Center as an attending physician and was one of the founders of the multidisciplinary breast team established at the hospital. Later, he was appointed as the head for the Plastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery Unit, dealing with all types of breast surgery, both aesthetic and reconstruction.

Academic Appointments
Professor Barnea is a clinical professor at Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, lecturing and tutoring students on plastic and aesthetic surgery topics. He is also active in clinical research and basic science within the breast and plastic surgery fields.
Professor Barnea has published over 80 articles in peer-review journals, and wrote numerous chapters in breast and plastic surgery books. He was awarded the 2018 PRS prize for best article by the world’s leading plastic surgery journal.
In addition, Professor Barnea is an invited lecture for international conferences around the world in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, and is the founder and lead organizer of the Tel Aviv (TLV) Breast symposium, an international conference that gathers the leading world renowned experts in the breast surgery field. What does a consultation meeting with Professor Yoav Barnea include
The consultation with Professor Barnea starts with the clinic’s nurse Evelin for an initial anamnesis session with preliminary questions, and afterwards, the consult with Professor Barnea. The consultation includes general questions on your health and habitus, prior surgeries, medications, allergies, and smoking habits, followed by specific questions regarding the surgery or procedure in mind. Afterward, Professor Barnea will examine you and show you relevant pictures before and after surgery. In selected cases you will undergo a 3D simulation to better understand the procedure that you desire to undertake. The consultation ends with his discussion on the options for the procedure and his recommendations, followed by answering all your questions. Professor Barnea believes that patient's comprehensive education and realistic expectations are a key to high patient satisfaction after the procedure.
As part of the preparation for surgery, the clinic will refer you for blood tests (blood counts and coagulation functions), along with additional tests depending on the type of surgery that will be performed and your age and general health. Also, you will get a list of additional garments and dressings needed to purchase for the surgery. Once the surgery is scheduled, you will receive a pre-surgical appointment at the clinic that includes going over all the test results and explaining the preparation before surgery, the surgical stages and the recovery period after surgery.
